SANGGAU |BUSERKOTA Com — Along the quiet frontier separating Indonesia and Malaysia, a meaningful gesture of trust has emerged from a community where security is built not only through vigilance, but also through human connection. A resident voluntarily surrendered a homemade firearm and ammunition to Indonesian border troops, highlighting the growing confidence between local communities and security personnel stationed in the region.

The voluntary handover took place on July 18, 2026, in Sungai Beruang Hamlet, Sungai Tekam Village, Sekayam District, Sanggau Regency, where soldiers from the Indonesian–Malaysian Border Security Task Force (Satgas Pamtas) Yonarmed 13/Nanggala have continued to strengthen community engagement through territorial development and social communication programs.

The resident, identified only by the initials MN, voluntarily handed over one homemade Bowman-type firearm along with a single round of ammunition to personnel from the Sei Beruang Border Post.

The achievement followed a series of regular community outreach activities, including home visits, social communication initiatives, and free medical services provided by the task force to residents living along the border.

According to Captain Bambang Sutrisno, Commander of Company IV at the Sei Beruang Border Post, consistent interaction with local communities has proven to be an effective approach in fostering mutual trust and strengthening family-like relationships between soldiers and civilians.

“Building trust begins with listening, serving, and standing alongside the community. Security grows naturally when people feel respected and protected,” Captain Bambang said.

The Commander of the Indonesia–Malaysia Border Security Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Rokib Hanafi, S.Sos., M.M., praised the resident’s cooperative decision, describing it as a reflection of the positive relationship that has been cultivated between the military and border communities.

He emphasized that emotional closeness and genuine engagement with residents remain fundamental pillars in maintaining peace and stability in frontier areas. For that reason, the task force will continue expanding its persuasive community communication programs across villages under its territorial responsibility.

“The voluntary surrender of an illegal firearm is more than a security achievement—it is a symbol of public trust and shared responsibility for preserving peace along the nation’s borders,” Lieutenant Colonel Rokib Hanafi stated.

Beyond the recovery of a single homemade weapon, the event illustrates a broader lesson in modern border security. Sustainable peace is rarely achieved through enforcement alone; it flourishes when law enforcement is complemented by dialogue, compassion, public service, and mutual respect between institutions and the communities they protect.

In the silence of the frontier, where nations meet and cultures intertwine, the strongest safeguard is not always the weapon carried by a soldier, but the trust willingly placed in that soldier by the people he serves.
