“Borders are not barriers, but bridges that connect hearts and histories.”
ATAMBUA |BUSERKOTA.Com)- Moment of warm diplomacy and kinship took place at the Office of the Regent of Belu, as the Consul of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Kupang, Espedito da Conceicao Ribeiro, paid an official visit and was warmly welcomed by the Vice Regent of Belu, Vicente Hornai Gonsalves, ST.
“First and foremost, on behalf of the Consulate of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Kupang, NTT, allow me to express our deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the Vice Regent of Belu and his team for the warm and honorable welcome extended to us,” said Consul Espedito graciously.
This visit, according to him, is not merely a formal occasion but part of a broader effort to strengthen the friendship, cooperation, and deep sense of kinship that have long existed between the people of Belu and Timor-Leste, especially along the borderlands of Timor Island.
“Belu and Timor-Leste are bound not only by geographic proximity but also by shared history, cultural roots, and familial ties,” Espedito stated. “Many of our citizens have blood relations with the people of Belu. Therefore, this visit is a meaningful moment to deepen communication, discuss cross-border challenges, and find common solutions for the prosperity of our communities.”
During the dialogue, the Consulate emphasized four key areas of cooperation that deserve mutual attention:
- Enhancing coordination in border management, especially in traditional trade, people movement, and regional security.
- Strengthening collaboration in education and healthcare, two vital sectors for the well-being of border communities.
- Promoting cultural and social exchanges, aimed at preserving harmony and reinforcing kinship across borders.
- Ensuring the protection of Timor-Leste citizens residing or working in Belu, including facilitating administrative processes and bilateral communication.
“We firmly believe that with open dialogue and the spirit of friendship, all challenges can be faced together—leading to a peaceful, prosperous, and respectful life for both sides,” Consul Espedito affirmed.
He closed his remarks with a hopeful vision for the future of bilateral relations.
“Once again, we extend our gratitude for the warm welcome and collaborative spirit of the Belu Regency Government. May this visit become a lasting bridge for deeper relations between our nations in the years to come,” he concluded.
